Marshmallow Treats with Peep

Marshmallow Peeps are a popular Easter candy in the United States. They are small, marshmallow treats that are shaped like chicks, bunnies, and other Easter themed designs. Usually brightly colored and often coated in sugar or sprinkles, they were first produced in the 1950s and have since become a staple ever since, who knew??!!

Some people enjoy eating them straight out of the package, while others like to use them as a decorative topping in peep desserts recipes. We will explain how to make an easy one out of them right here.

Rice Krispie Treats with Peeps

This literally isn’t any different really than if you were to use just mini white ones. You will use some of those still with a few of your favorite colors so no food coloring is needed but they will look different.

Ingredients

  • A few tablespoons of butter or dairy free alternative
  • Mini marshmallows are easier to melt
  • Rice Krispies cereal is the base but any cereal works like Kix or something other than flakes
  • 1 regular sized package of colored sugar Peeps in your favorite shade

Use a larger rectangle pan for thinner or if you like them nice and thick then a square one can be used. Just remember either way that non stick spray needs to be all over the insides for sure so they slide out.

How to Make Easter Rice Krispies Treats

  1. Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan with cooking spray. In a pot, melt the butter over low heat.
  2. Add the mini marshmallows and package of peeps to the pot and stir until melted.
  3. Pour the Rice Krispies cereal into a large bowl.
  4. Remove the pot from the heat and pour marshmallows into cereal.
  5. Immediately stir until the cereal until it is fully coated in the marshmallow mixture.
  6. Pour the mixture into the greased baking dish and press it down firmly with a spatula or your hands. Let it cool and set for at least 30 minutes before cutting into squares and serving.
  7. You could even use a piping bag to add a dollop of frosting and then stick a whole Peep to the top of each cereal bar for fun when serving.

If you wanted to make a rainbow layered treat Easter treat, make multiple batches with different colored peeps. Press in first layer, then layer second on top of that and press down. In order to make it more than 3 and still fit in the pan cut this recipe in half so layers aren’t as thick.

What Can You Make with Peeps?

OMG anything you make like marshmallow chocolate bars or anything else you use regular ones with. Just swap these in for the same amount. Think outside of the box really and there will be tons of ideas you can come up with.

  1. Peeps s’mores – instead of using regular marshmallows in your s’mores, try using these! Toast them over an open flame until they are melted and gooey, then sandwich them between graham crackers and chocolate.
    • you can alternatively add half a bar on top of your cracker with your mallow
    • pop it into your microwave for 20 seconds or so until it starts lifting up and melting
  2. Peeps kabobs – stick a skewer or lollipop stick into a Peep and use it as a fun and colorful addition to your dessert table.
  3. Cupcakes – bake your favorite flavor of cupcakes and top them with a Peep or two for a fun and festive touch.
  4. Peeps milkshake – blend vanilla ice cream, milk, and Peepers together in a blender for a delicious and colorful milkshake.
  5. Make a wreath – use toothpicks to attach them to a foam wreath form and create a fun and festive Easter decoration.
  6. Marshmallow trail mix – mix together popcorn, chocolate chips, pretzels, and small ones of these together for a sweet and salty snack.
  7. Peeps hot chocolate – melt 2 of these into warm milk for a colorful and delicious hot chocolate treat for the kiddos during the cooler months.

These are just a few Easter peeps ideas – get creative and have fun with them!
