This is super easy to do with just 2 ingredients and some warm water. It is completely safe for kids to make and play with because everything is edible. I mean I wouldn’t eat it on purpose as a dessert but for toddlers who put everything in their mouth it is a fun indoor activity that is cheap to create together.

We used both sugar free lemon and strawberry too. I’m sure you have cornstarch in your pantry already, and then all you need is warm water. I bet you could use any other type of liquid you wanted too but we haven’t tried that quite yet. Simple ingredients that are good to taste and safe for kids who love to make this stuff!
Jello Slime Ingredients
- 1 box sugar free JELLO (4 ounces)
- 1 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 cup Warm water
- Mixing bowl and spoon
If you are worried about making a big mess you can just use a paper or plastic bowl and spoon. That way you can throw everything away at the end. Another great thing about using disposable items is when it’s done you can put plastic wrap on the top to save it.
How to Make Edible Jello Slime
- Stir together gelatin and cornstarch
- Then stir in the warm water slowly
- Once the Jello starts to turn into liquid, stop adding liquid
- Continue stirring and test consistency
- For a thinner slime, add water a bit more but just 1 tbsp at a time
- If you want it more like playdough add less water so it is stiffer
What is the best substitute for glue in slime?
This is a great example of how to get the same fun texture you can play with, without liquid starch at all!! I have seen others that use foamy soap or putty to stick posters to the wall but neither one of these would be kid safe. You do need something that is thick, that can bind together and stretch which this surprisingly works well for. All in one little box!
When it is done you can play with your Jello Slime! A great sensory play activity in a Kindergarten classroom or at home for sure.
How do you play with slime?
Make sure to keep it on some wax paper or non stick cutting board so it doesn’t stick to the table. Just give each child a large sheet in front of them, or better yet you can find non stick placemats for kids that are reusable and will not roll up. Another idea is to find a favorite free printable and laminate that sheet!
How do you keep slime from drying out?
It is best to store it in a container with a lid so it doesn’t dry up and you can play with it for a long time. A fun and effective way to keep air out is to use plastic Easter eggs! You can then gift them this way or put them on your bunny charcuterie board for little ones to discover.
